JOB DESCRIPTION: KITCHEN VOLUNTEER

Qualifications:

• A desire to support youth experiencing homelessness of all sexualities and genders.
• Energy.
• Ability to set up and/or move heavy tables.
• Availability to work from 5:30 pm to approximately 7:30 pm on at pre-scheduled youth nights.

Basic Job Description:

• This position consists of setting up the fellowship hall for the meal, serving the meal, and cleaning up the kitchen and dinner tables after meal.
• Kitchen volunteers have some direct contact with youth and the position requires a background check.

Tasks/Duties:

• Run/empty dishwasher, if necessary, when you arrive at 5:30.
• Arrange tables and add decorations if necessary.
• Set tables with plates (40 places), glasses, silverware and napkins.
• Set out salt/pepper shakers, hot sauce, butter (small portions, please!), and salad dressings.
• Locate and set out (on the kitchen cabinet) serving platters/bowls and serving utensils for family-style service.
• Make at least 5 pitchers of lemonade or iced tea and 5 pitchers of water. ( More may be needed.)
• Set out drinks and snacks for participants as they arrive:
  • ​At least one pitcher of lemonade and one pitcher of water at each table
  • Snacks at each table
  • Brewed coffee on table by the kitchen
• Brew coffee as needed.
• Heat food as necessary and plan to serve about 6:30.
• Take food to the tables only after the participants have reviewed the MGP rules. Replenish
  as necessary.
• Remove a participant’s plate as soon as the participant has finished eating and then
  immediately serve the participant the dessert. The staff prefers that there be no “down”
  time between the two courses as the participants tend to get restless when there is too
  much waiting time.
• Clear the tables and wipe off tables for activity time.
• Prepare leftovers into to-go boxes. Cookies and/or bread may be placed inside
  plastic sandwich bags so they don’t get soggy. Include plastic ware.
• Rinse dishes and place in the dishwasher. Remaining dishes should be washed by hand and
  put away before leaving.

Position Time Requirement:

• Approximately two hours per shift, on pre-scheduled basis.
