Direct Youth Worker attends weekly MGP Youth Night, interacting with homeless youth in a positive, respectful manner during a variety of activities.
This position involves direct contact with Youth and requires a background check.
Tasks/Duties:
Position Time Requirement:
- Age 28 or older.
- Desire to provide positive mentoring to at-risk youth.
- Able to discuss difficult issues (sexuality, drug and alcohol use, unwanted pregnancy, sexually
transmitted diseases, homelessness, survival sex, etc.) with adolescents in an open, nonjudgmental,
constructive manner. - Able to put personal religious values into perspective, and to meet the youth where they are,
exercising unconditional positive regard. - Able to always hold self to the highest standards of personal behavior and MGP
requirements. - Able to set up and maintain positive, healthy personal boundaries.
- Able to deal with less-than-positive outcomes.
- Able to accept people who are a part of or allies to the LGBT community.
- Possesses good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willing to work under strict MGP guidelines and supervision, to accept a 2 month
probationary period, and to submit to regular evaluations. - Willing to participate in a weekly debriefing session with other volunteers and supervisors
after each program evening and to be transparent with the group about experiences and
feelings regarding direct youth work.

Tasks/Duties:
- Attend initial training sessions and continuing education sessions up to twice yearly.
- Closely read and follow the material in the MGP Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Notify Executive Director at least 48 hours in advance of a schedule cancellation.
- Eat meal with youth, family-style.
- Informally interact with youth as an adult mentor.
- Encourage youth attentiveness and mutual respectfulness.
- Participate in evening’s social/creative activity.
- Help to facilitate group discussions.
- Be willing to listen, without judgment, to whatever the youth are dealing with.
- Refrain from imposing personal religious beliefs, ethics, or morals on the youth.
- Participate in post-program debriefing session.
Position Time Requirement:
- Minimum 10 hours per month for minimum of one year.
- 5 hours for program evening shifts (5:45pm - 10pm), at least twice monthly.
